Remember all that election coverage we were talking about?
The FCC recently proposed a new step in the possible future deveopment of Over The Top (OTT) Multichannel Providers.
These OTT companies provide programming on-line instead of over traditional cable TV facilities. This new ruling would only apply to those providers who "broadcast" a continuous linear stream of programming - not to Video On Demand sources. This new rule would include such OTT providers in the retransmission rules, providing them access to programing of local broadcasters. Although, the real challenge for OTT providers will likely be their ability to reach agreements for licensing of the major newtorks' content, which are currently largely locked up by cable and satellite providers.
